It’s worth saying that this article on mice extermination will be rather useful to people who have these undeniably destructive vermin and want to get rid of them right away.
These pests gnaw on almost everything, leave droppings and it goes without saying that they can carry diseases, some of which can be very fatal, for instance, many of us have heard of Bubonic plague in Europe.
So, how do people go about getting rid of these nasty little household pests? In this article I’d like to describe the most and the least popular methods of mice extermination.
However, the experts know that there is hierarchy among the mice extermination methods which are used in coping with undesired pest mice. Some of them are not even worth considering, because they turn out to be not enough efficient or dysfunctional.

Thus, at first we’ll have a look at the least useful devices:
- rodenticides are known as highly effective in making genocide to all mice inhabitants, but there is one great disadvantage – they are very unsafe to use, because your little kids or your cats, dogs may probably take it as food;
- zappers produce electrical charges in order to electrocute the mice when they come in contact with it. The problem lies in that it costs 25 dollars (usually one needs at least 1-2 in each room of a house), requires frequent battery change and, as a result, they are not efficient at all;
- ultrasonic devices emit high frequency electronic or sound waves that jam the mouse’s sense of hearing and probably deter it from living in your house. However, it is already scientifically proven that such gadget work only with insect pests, but not with mice or any other rodents;
- towel trap is one of the most ridiculous methods of mice extermination – you throw a towel on a mouse to temporarily maim its movements and catch it.
Maybe these methods have been earlier effective in the struggle with mice, but nowadays there are many various mice extermination methods which are easier, quicker and more humane.
In your local hardware store you may find the following devices:
- conventional snap trap which is usually baited with sticky food. It is equipped with a heavy gauge steel spring bar which quickly kills the mouse. These traps are rather cheap and affordable for those of us on a budget. Don’t forget to buy some of such traps and put them in different rooms of your house. Keep in mind, that the springs are too powerful, so that they can easily hurt a child or family pet;
- glue traps use a sticky substance to catch the rodent as it hunts for food. It’s important that they are safe to use if you have little kids or pets in your house. A significant disadvantage is that it does not kill the mouse immediately;
- live traps must be checked every day to ensure that there are new caught and then you should relocate this mouse far away from your home, because it may return in any moment.
If all of these methods fail to work properly, it’s high time to call a mice extermination service and ask them for a piece of advice or hire a well-trained professional to remedy the problem.
